Microbrewery Festival Also A COVID Loss

The Maryland Microbrewery Festival, held each September at the Union Mills Homestead, will not be held in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Mark your calendars now for next year’s event, which will be on Saturday, September 25, 2021.

Highly Anticipated Each Year

2015 Maryland Microbrewery Festival

A sun-soaked view of the waning hours of the 2015 Maryland Microbrewery Festival at the Union Mills Homestead.

The Maryland Microbrewery Festival is one of the most anticipated events each year in Carroll County.  The event, which celebrates and promotes the best of Maryland craft beers, is held each year on the last Saturday in September at the Union Mills Homestead. This year, due to COVID-19, the event had to be canceled. The many fans of the event are no doubt disappointed, but look back on the many enjoyable festivals held on the beautiful grounds of the Union Mills Homestead. This event is particularly notable, as it not only celebrates craft beer, but also history. The Union Mills Homestead is a unique historic site, founded in 1797. At the center of the historic site’s campus lies a historic grist mill, where generations of local residents ground grains such as corn, wheat and rye into flour. Another historic use for ground grain products: beer and distilled spirits!

Other Opportunities for Microbrewery Festival Fans

Fans of Maryland craft beer have other options to celebrate this year.  During an abbreviated Carroll County Beer Week, there are two in-person events and an online event. All the events are described on the Carroll County Beer Week website. An online event is scheduled for Monday, September, 28, 2020, featuring a brewers talk that will include six of Carroll County’s craft brewers. Details are below. Fans of the Union Mills Homestead can come out to the site for our Annual Meeting, on Saturday, October 3, at 2 p.m., or attend the Mason-Dixon Jeep Gathering on Sunday, October 18, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.  Both events are scheduled for outdoors with plenty of room for social distancing.
