Music on the Millrace
“Music on the Millrace” is a new Sunday concert series at the Union Mills Homestead, offered this year at the historic site north of Westminster, MD. The idea was to create a relaxed, inviting event to encourage our members and friends to come out to enjoy the authentic beauty of the site, separate from our other major events.
This is a great opportunity to enjoy an afternoon on the beautiful grounds of the Union Mills Homestead. Admission to the event is only $10. Under 12 are free! Food, beer and wine will be available to purchase. Please bring a chair or blanket to sit on. No outside alcohol may be brought into the event. Because we have to inspect any containers to ensure there is no alcohol, please refrain from bringing backpacks or coolers, although you are welcome to bring your own snacks.
Our next concert will be held from Sunday, October 20, 2024, from 3 to 6 pm, and features the Gayle Harrod Band. The concert will immediately follow the Mason Dixon Willys Jeep Gathering held at the Union Mills Homestead the same day. Based in the Baltimore-Washington area, Gayle Harrod is a powerful and soulful blues performer. She plays in clubs throughout the area and was a hit at the 2023 Maryland Microbrewery Festival. Band leader, vocalist, and songwriter Gayle Harrod achieves an incredibly satisfying level of performance in The Gayle Harrod Band’s debut release, Temptation.
Check out this music video for the title track for Gayle Harrod’s first CD, “Temptation.” A tongue and cheek take on the battle between good and evil/right and wrong, this is a great preview of the band’s love for blues:
The August concert was held Sunday, August 25, 2024, with Hayden Shaw & This Side of Pleasant. Hayden Shaw is a Carroll County-based bluegrass and country musician who plays with a high-energy style and is a lot of fun. A professional firefighter, Hayden plays bluegrass in his spare time.
The concerts run from 3 pm to 6 pm outdoors on the grounds of the historic Union Mills Homestead. Come join us for some great music!

Our first concert was Sunday, June 30, 2024, featuring Ebb & Nova! Balancing on their own spectrum of Indie Rock and vibrant Folk Pop, Ebb & Nova has delivered a little something for everyone over their 8 years of east coast performances. The band showcases enchanting vocals, distinct cello, rhythmic drums, and infectious guitar across two full albums and multiple singles. Along with their original music, the band lends their creative approach to plenty of cover songs. With a repertoire of artists ranging from the 1950s to now, they never fail to bring intriguing and creative takes to recognizable hits. Beyond being professional partners on stage, the four share a tight bond of friendship and fun that translates to their live performances and keeps audiences engaged and entertained. Veterans of the Maryland music scene, Ebb & Nova cherishes each opportunity to perform and has emerged as a must see act in the region.
